Blood Sugar running totally out of control what could I do about it but go back to basics.
I had a little moment when I realised that my body wasn’t performing as it normally does. So I checked my blood pressure and cholesterol and my blood sugar. Blood sugar had gone through the roof. Oh dear and I thought I had been very good in controlling my sugar intake. This clearly wasn’t so…. I decided to take a few days to jiggle my eating habits. I started portion control , taking out carbs, went on to soups , juices and salads and good old fashioned water (strictly no caffeine). Just 4 days later my sugar levels were near to normal and I was full of energy and vitality. I broke my fast with a delicious salad made up of the following ingredients:
1/2 a pack of Feta Cheese
1/2 an Avocado
1 large wedge of Cucumber
2 sticks of Celery (chopped)
2 Cherry tomatoes
4 White Grapes (chopped)
Small handful of Walnuts (chopped and sprinkled on top)
1 tablespoon of Virgin olive oil
1/2 a Lemon (juiced)
1 Toasted Wholemeal Pitta Bread
Put ingredients into a large bowl, stirred around, added a measuring of Mediterranean herbs which I sprinkled on top . I then left for 1/2 an hour. Toasted the wholemeal pitta bread, opened up the Pitta and filled with the salad.
There was enough for 2 so Kate and I had a little feast with our feet up my the log fire…yum

Are you trying to keep up those promises that you made to yourself to start 2019 by putting your best foot forward to stay healthy, focused and relaxed. I wonder how many of you have after a few days forgotten those promises you made ? It is so easy when life gets in the way to implement those good deeds. I only make one resolution so that I don’t feel guilty about missing it (so far so good !!), to take at least one juice as a meal per day. Giving my body a nice rest ( your body would like that also ) from all the rich foods that you might have indulged in over the Festive season. Taking a walk in the fresh air also helps one to focus. I have put all these things in to practice so watch this space …..
Kate and I have been slaving away in the kitchen developing and creating some new nourishing, healthy Detoxing Soups which we will over the course of the next few months be adding to our face book page for you to also enjoy.

Logs are in the wood shed and we are battling down the hatches ready for the Festive season. The log fires are burning, Christmas trees are dressed and the decorations are up, there is a wonderful festive glow. A few years ago we upgraded all of our heating system in this 18th Century Country house. In the early days it would take us hours to get the house warm and cosy but now a flick of the switch and light of a match and behind the scenes the house is warm and ready for our Festive Detoxing guests who come from all four corners of the world to enjoy our hospitality. Fun and laughter guaranteed with Kate & Viv cooking up some new Detox Soup Recipes in the kitchen. Watch this space in the New Year as we love sharing our stories with you.
It’s been a while since we last posted stories on our blog as we have been very busy having all our lovely clients coming to us over the past few years to focus on Detoxing.
So much has happened that really we could write a book or two….. We have created a lovely comfy homely place to stay. We have revamped the house many times (here we go again) . We have developed some really helpful treatments and our reward is that lovely people have been leaving us having lost weight, feeling re-juvinated , uplifted, destressed and reconnected to themselves.
Over the next few weeks we will recall some wonderful stories that have made us laugh and sometimes cry. The variation of Detoxers never cease to amaze us. Of course we are always happy to open our doors to anyone and everyone who is looking for support, help , tlc and in genuine need of a supportive place to rest. It is our 20th birthday in 2019 and we are still as passionate as ever about Detoxing. We are still run by the same family and mainly the same staff as when we started . We are now moving into a new faze with new Detoxing programmes and plans. The newest edition in the house is our revamped Yoga and light exercise room.
We would love to hear from any of you who would like some more information. Give us a call on 01403 822117 as we would love to hear from you. Look out for our new look website where you can find our new Detoxing plans and all available dates.
Keep in touch with Vivien and ‘Simply Healing’ Team.
OK, it’s official – I do go off the track once in a while! Off I went shopping for a small side table and came back with an elephant or two – as you do! I once went to buy a bed and also bought a full kitchen so my family are not too surprised.
What a turn-up. Charlie and I had a day to shop and we both fell in love with these two elephants built of driftwood – they now stand in the long grass on the lawn looking magnificent and much admired by everyone.
The sun is out, the sky is blue, sunbeds all in a row overlooking the masterpiece that is nature.
I am happy to say that our menopause programme is proving to be hugely successful in helping so many of you with the menopausal symptoms that most women have to deal with. We are planning to take it one step further and offer our clients a more in-depth insight to how their hormones work, but more on this later. Watch this space! There is a little saying from the team at Simply Healing that when Vivien shakes her sleeve something magical comes out!
But for now, we’ve got elephants…
