Here at Simply Healing what we offer is not just a Juicing Retreat, but a full Juice Cleanse complete with Herbal Formulas and Colonic Hydrotherapy. Why do we do this rather than just juicing – because we feel that in order to detox properly you need to start from within.

Why do we need to detox?

We are surrounded by toxins – in the air that we breathe, the food that we eat and even in the water that we drink. Add to this lifestyle choices and the body is inundated with toxins. The only way forward is to try and remove toxins from the system and start afresh.

Rest and Relaxation

Our bodies need a certain amount of energy each day in order to maintain basic functions (base metabolic rate). The energy we produce from the consumption of foods goes first and foremost to keeping our vital organs working – maintaining the essential functions that keep us alive. Other less essential functions, such as the removal of toxins and the burning of fat are not always achieved with the energy available, so by resting, relaxing and removing the energy required from digesting the bulk of food you can divert the energy needed to ensure these processes do take place.

Whilst we do advocate gentle exercise, yoga and country walks, we feel that it is important that during a juice cleanse of this type that you listen to your body and take it easy.

It is usual during a detox to feel tired, some guests may experience detox symptoms such as headaches and nausea. Your body temperature will fluctuate, with many guests feeling cold. These are all perfectly normal, eliminating toxins isn’t an easy process – if it was our bodies would do it much more effectively without assistance.

Fight and Flight versus Rest & Digest

The Parasympathetic Nervous system has two ‘default’ settings ‘Fight and Flight’ and ‘Rest and Digest’. In these days of such fast paced, adrenalized busy lives, fuelled by caffeine, sugars and processed foods we are firmly in the ‘Fight and Flight’ state, becoming disconnected from ourselves and our basic wellbeing needs.

Retreating allows you to switch to a state of ‘Rest and Digest’, physically focusing on your health and wellbeing needs, giving you that clear time and space, both physically and mentally to reconnect and focus on achieving physical and metal clarity.

Why Juicing and light Detox Soups as opposed to Smoothies and Raw Foods?

Fasting is nature’s way of effecting healing from within: By removing the need for your body to digest the bulk and fibre of food, once again your body can divert the energy it would usually use for digestion to other body functions such as detoxing, healing – repairing on a cellular level and for weight loss fat burning.

Following a juice only programme can help to balance blood sugars and significantly aid people with Type 2 Diabetes, Insulin Resistance and other conditions where High Blood Sugar is an issue. During your stay if we feel that your Blood Sugars are high upon check in, we will continue to monitor your levels throughout your stay.

When you see the ‘pulp’ left behind in a juicer you can clearly see just how much bulk and fibre is present in even the most innocent looking fruits and vegetables. All the nutrition you need is in the juices and therefore by not consuming all that bulk, your digestive system can take a breather and with the aid of Colonic Hydrotherapy you can rid your colon of anything that may be adding to toxins or interfering with the proper function of the colon, and therefore reducing its effectiveness.
